Wilde's vision is the third league

This week, the TG wurzburg presented further details of its plan to help the sport of handball in wurzburg regain its glory and success to several dozen interested parties, including representatives of other clubs, for example from heidingsfeld and marktsteft. "Departure to more handball" is the title of the project, the details of which for the youth sector the club has already made public recently. Now also the plans for the manner were named.

After that, the TGW wants to advance from the district league to the state league within three years. In a second project step, the promotion to the third league is to be completed within a further three years. In addition, an HC wurzburg gmbh is to be founded. TGW head of department reimund wiegand and former second division coach raimo wilde are the leaders behind the initiative. In the foyer of the TGW hall in the feggrube, the holder of the A-schein also introduced the sponsor of the ambitious action: former national player sven tiedtke.

The 32-year-old has played 64 international matches for germany (92 goals) and 370 bundesliga matches (1190 goals) and will be playing for bundesliga club HSG wetzlar next season. "Of course i will not be permanently on the spot". It is not possible to do it in time. I’m a professional," said tiedtke. But i am available for handball camps or special youth trainings"."

Someone who is always available for handball at the tgw was honored on the spot this weekend: leo weber, who has held just about every job in the department, from deputy head to coach, was awarded the honorary service award of the bavarian handball association 2011. "What he does, especially in the youth area, is outstanding," said department head wiegand.

Young talent is both a problem and a hope in the region. Although around 19,000 people play handball in ninety clubs in lower franconia. In recent years, however, the number of young players has declined steadily, which is also due to the low birth rate in those years. "If we manage to bundle the best players into one team, that could have a signal effect," says wilde. "We must centralize talent."

At the national league club TV grobwallstadt, wilde played a major role in setting up the handball performance center. He now wants to bring this experience to wurzburg as well. He is also counting on partner clubs – he has eight to ten in mind. "Everyone must benefit in the end. It’s no use having talented people move to lemgo or magdeburg. We must offer them local prospects. That means: there must be high-class performance handball again."That’s why, among other things, the hiring of a full-time youth director is planned under the umbrella of the TGW.

Increased cooperation with schools is also particularly important. It is one of the main pillars of the new concept, in addition to the partner clubs and sponsoring, also through a newly planned challenge circle. "Good handball naturally also costs money. We want to break new ground here, too," says wilde, who introduced the "gluckssponsoring" program, among other things. For 150 euros you can buy a lottery ticket that can put the buyer and his company on the jersey of all TGW teams in a drawing in july. "Pass the word on to everyone," wilde called out to those present – because handball in wurzburg also needs to be perceived more strongly in the public eye.
